Our units

Start at five. Stay until twenty.

The four units share a meeting place and a charter, so families move between them without starting over. Most Scouts here grow through two or three of them.

Pack 447

Cub Scouts
Who
Grades K–5 · boys and girls
Meets
Mondays, 6:30 pm

Cub Scouting is where it starts. Dens meet by grade, and families come along — a parent or guardian stays for the meeting with the youngest Scouts. Expect pinewood derby cars, first campouts, and a lot of running around outside.

Troop 447

Scouts BSA
Who
Grades 5–12 · boys
Meets
Thursdays, 6:30–8:00 pm

The Troop is Scout-led. Older Scouts plan the campouts, run the meetings, and teach the skills — adults stay in the background on purpose. This is where a young person learns to lead by actually doing it, on the way to Eagle.

Troop 1447

Scouts BSA
Who

Meets
Thursdays, 6:30–8:00 pm

Troop 1447 is a girls’ troop running the same Scouts BSA programme, to the same rank requirements, all the way to Eagle. It meets the same night as Troop 447 and the two often camp together, which makes life simpler for families with more than one Scout.

Crew 4447

The aims & methods of Scouting
Why families join

It is not really about camping.

Camping is how it happens. What families come back for is what it does to a kid over a few years.

01

They lead it themselves

In the Troop the Scouts plan the trips, run the meetings and teach the skills. Adults stay out of the way on purpose. It is the part parents notice first.

02

Outdoors, most months

Campouts, summer camp, hiking, kayaking and climbing. Scotland County and the Lumber River country are right on the doorstep.

03

Service that is local

Roadside cleanups, church projects and community work. Scouts here put in the hours where they live, not somewhere abstract.

Out there

A year in the 447s.

Come to a meeting before you decide.

There is no need to sign anything to visit. Turn up on a meeting night, see what happens, and talk to the leaders. Most families visit twice before joining.
